Universong 47 was the 47th edition of the Universong Contest, held in Castrovillari, Italy from December 6th to December 23rd, 2012. This was the fifth Italian staging of the USC, this time after the winning of Francesca Michielin in the last edition held in Liverpool, England, with the song "Sola".
Algeria became in this edition the first African country ever to win Universong. This country won thanks to the song "C'est ma vie" by Khaled, gathering 154 points, 5 points more than the runner-up, former USC winner Agnes from Sweden with the song "Don't go breaking my heart", and 10 points less than the third place, United States represented by the song "Blue jeans" by Lana del Rey. The three aforementioned countries became the main rivals who struggled to win this edition in the last voting stages. The voting saw a closed point allocation, in which the winner was not clear from the very first voting (indeed, countries like Vietnam and Spain, for instance, took the leading in the early voting stages), until the three aforementioned countries took the leading positions before Algeria took the trophy in the very last vote. The top 5 was completed by the songs of Spain and Russia.
Originally, the United States got 4th place, because a favourite and original 3rd place holder, Costa Rica - represented by Debi Nova with the song "Drummer boy" (who got 147 points, 2 less than the runner-up Sweden and 7 points less than the winner Algeria, and previously got 2nd place in the second semifinal) - was disqualified for not showing up during the final voting days.
