Universong 38 was the 38th edition of the Universong Contest, held from April 11th and 27th, 2012 in London, England. This was the first time England staged the USC, being just the second time the contest is held in the United Kingdom, after the USC 20, held in Cardiff, Wales. The winning of Adele, with the song "Turning tables", on the previous edition in Capri, Italy, was the reason why the USC was held in the English capital.
After an exciting voting sequence, Monica Ferraz, the singer representing Portugal, won the first (and only so far) winner for their country, with the song "Golden days", collecting a total of 151 points. Even though, it wasn't evident that Portugal would win, since the winner was decided in the very last voting. Denmark spent almost all the voting round in first place, specially in the last voting rounds. Finally, Aura Dione and Rock Mafia, got finally second place, with 146 points for the song "Friends". Another favourite, who also spent most of the voting in first position before Portugal and Denmark caught up, was France, represented by Nolwenn Leroy, with the song "La jument de Michao", that collected a total of 133 points. Australia and host England completed the top 5.
As a curiosity, the United States hold from this edition a very strange record. The band Fall Out Boy brought to Universong a song with the longest title in the Universong history. The song was called "I'm like a lawyer with the way I'm always trying to get you off (Me & You)", and its title had 17 words. The song didn't progress to the Grand Final, since it got 14th place with 45 points in the second semifinal.
