Universong 8 was the 8th staging of the Universong Contest, held in Valletta, capital of Malta, with the participation of 25 countries, including France and Indonesia (the first Asian country ever to debut in Universong) in their debuts. The contest was held in Malta during 2010 after the winning of Chiara with the song "Sail away", on the previous edition in Reykjavik, Iceland.

With a third winning in eight editions, The Netherlands became the most successful country of all on that time. Future Presidents, with the song "Love don't pay the bill$" weren't only responsible for the third Dutch Universong crown, but also broke all the records to be up to that time the most voted song in the short contest's history, collecting 154 points. Ireland, one of the big favourites for the title, scored second place position with The Corrs, with the song "Breathless", scoring 142 points, 12 points less than The Netherlands. The third place was for another successful country, Romania, with less points than winner and runner-up, 89 points, with "Amazing", by superstar Inna. The top 5 was completed by England and Denmark, both with 88 points. Another of the favourites were the representatives of Sweden, Timoteij featuring Alexander Rybak, with the song "Vanda med vinden", which ultimately got 6th place with 77 points.

Peru trusted once again in Anna Carina, its representative in USC 07, being this the first time that a same contestant enters the USC twice in a row, also improving its record. Anna, with the song "Cielo sin luz", got seventh place with 72 points, a record yet to be broken by the South American country up to USC 94, though Ezio Oliva gave Peru its point record, despite only finishing ninth in USC 90 in Madrid.
