This song by Minneapolis-based band Bad Bad Hats makes it seem so simple. Their music is so uncomplicated and undemanding that it almost feels effortless. Lyricist and vocalist Kerry Alexander makes every release stronger with her gentle and calming voice, reminiscent of Julia Jacklin of Phantastic Ferniture. It seems as though she has some sort of northern-European accent, but that isn't the case despite our initial premonition. The indie-rock band has a tendency to take lyrics about a rather serious subject and set it to a soothing melody - Case in point: "you traded me for a stranger, maybe you're a stranger to me too" (from "Write It on Your Heart"). In this track, the first-person narrator tells her significant other, "I would love if you loved me, I wish I were seventeen again"... "but that was then"... "falling for you, but I'm not satisfied". The song tells a painful story in a mellow way. It describes a woman growing up longing for the man she loved, and after all these years realizing that everything she felt towards him is lost and that she can never be content - because nothing gets her high.
